In the classroom
Rob teaches junior high band in Calgary, working with young musicians every day. That classroom experience shapes his work as a guest clinician and festival adjudicator.
A lifelong learner
Still a student himself, he continues to study with the teacher he first met at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), and who now teaches him remotely, years later. Staying a student keeps him close to what it feels like to work on something difficult, and it shapes the feedback he gives to young musicians: practical, encouraging and honest.
Adjudicator, clinician and guest conductor
As an adjudicator, clinician and guest conductor, including at band and music festivals in Alberta, he offers practical, encouraging feedback to young musicians and school ensembles.
“Rob’s work with our students, ranging from our kindergartners to our grade six jazz band, was nothing short of amazing. Whether he was working with soloists, small ensembles, or full classes in larger groups, his approach was consistently supportive and insightful.
“The feedback provided was meticulously tailored to each performer, with his ability to offer specific, actionable ways to grow while maintaining a celebratory tone ensuring that every student left the stage feeling encouraged and capable.”
